The Ukrainian Cultural Centre ‘Dnipro’ Manchester has been inundated with donations to send to the border.

They have been collecting items from people to donate to those who have nothing after being forced to flee their homes amid the Russian invasion.

Wolodymyr Kowalyszyn volunteers at the centre. While he and the team are overwhelmed by the donations he says it has become too much for the volunteers to handle.

He said: “Good people of the world have risen up, seen there’s a need and everybody has stepped forward to help but the whole world has stepped forward and it’s too much for us to cope with at the moment.”

Thanks to the generosity of the public the centre doesn’t need any more clothes and has had reports back from the border not to send any more clothes.

However, they are still appealing for items including medicines, first aid kits, sanitary products, nappies and sleeping bags.

Wolodymyr Kowalyszyn and other community leaders across Greater Manchester have called for more support for the men and women from Ukraine who have signed up to defend their homeland.

The centre has been taking in humanitarian aid to send to the country but say what they desperately need is kit and protective clothing.

They’re collecting and sending boots, bulletproof vests and helmets.
