A number of schools have announced closures in Greater Manchester on Friday morning (10 March 2023) as snow hit the city-region - with more warnings for snow and ice from the Met Office today.
Edgar Wood academy and Hopwood Hall college in Rochdale tweeted they will close today, with college buses not running in the bad weather, while more than 20 schools in Oldham are shut due to the weather and poor travel conditions.

Primary School; St Anne’s C.E. Primary School, Lydgate; Royton Hall Primary School; The Blue Coat C.E. School; St Thomas Werneth Primary School; St Thomas Leesfield CoE Primary School; St Paul’s C.E. Primary School; St Patrick’s R.C. Primary School; St Mary’s C.E. Primary School, Greenfield;St Mary’s C.E. Primary High Crompton; St Mary’s C.E. Primary High Crompton and St Martin’s C.E. Parents are advised to check directly with individual schools this morning before heading off.
National Highways has issued a “severe weather alert” for snow covering the North West until 8am on Friday, where motorists have been warned not to drive unless their journey is essential.
The Met Office amber snow alert for England lasts until noon on Friday. The weather is expected to clear by the end of Friday, before then being replaced by another low pressure system, leading to a further yellow snow and ice warning for much of northern England and Scotland from 3pm on Saturday to 6am on Sunday.
