Rico Burton: man charged with murder following fatal stabbing in Altrincham

Greater Manchester police have charged a 21-year-old man with the murder of Rico Burton in Altrincham over the weekend.

Mr Burton - a cousin of boxer Tyson Fury - died after an incident outside a bar in Goose Green around 3am on Sunday. A 17-year-old boy was also injured and remains in hospital.

Liam O’Prey, of no fixed address, has been remanded in custody and will appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court tomorrow (24 August) after being arrested.

O’Prey is also charged with a section 18 assault of the 17-year-old boy who received life-saving treatment from members of the public at the scene.

A GMP spokesman said: “The family of the teenage victim have thanked all those who helped to provide first aid that night – including first responders – to allow him to continue his recovery in hospital, where he remains stable with some significant life-changing injuries.”

A 20-year-old man who was also arrested on suspicion of murder has been released on bail pending further enquiries.
