Runners who will be pounding the streets of Manchester for 26.2 miles this year at one of the city’s biggest annual events can also support the ongoing humanitarian relief work for Ukraine with their athletic efforts.

The Therme Manchester Marathon has unveiled a special race bib to show support for the Ukrainian people after their country was subjected to a brutal Russian invasion.

Proceeds raised will go towards the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) which has launched an appeal for funds to help its vital aid work.

Thousands of pounds have already been raised but runners still have some time this month to order a special bib and show their support.

What is the Therme Manchester Marathon doing to support Ukraine?

The Therme Manchester Marathon is supporting the DEC, which is raising money for Ukrainian people who have fled their homes due to the war and are now in need of food, water and healthcare.

It has released a special race bib for the 2022 edition of the marathon to aid the humanitarian efforts.

For a donation of £10 or more runners can receive a special additional bib to be worn on their back showing the flag of Ukraine.

The bib launched on 4 March and has proved a huge success, with more than 2,100 runners signing up for one and contributing some £26,500 to the humanitarian relief effort in the first week.

All donations will go to the DEC’s Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal supporting work in Ukraine and across the border in neighbouring countries to meet the immediate needs of people fleeing the conflict.

The organisation will provide refugees and those caught up in the war with food, water, medical assistance, protection and trauma care.
