A weather warning for heavy rain in Greater Manchester has been extended by the Met Office. The yellow alert started at 5pm on New Year’s Day and now runs until 9pm on January 2.
After a similar warning on New Year’s Eve, the Met Office says “heavy rain falling on saturated ground is likely to cause some travel disruption”. It had initially been set to run until 9pm on New Year's Day but has been extended for a further 24 hours. While missing Bolton and Wigan, this alert covers most of the region including Manchester city centre. Flood warnings and alerts have also been in place for parts of the region.
