Haigh near Wigan has been named as one of the most desirable villages to live in England in a new study by the Daily Telegraph and Savills estate agent.
Savills has reported a boom in people keen to rent or buy homes in villages since the Covid pandemic enabled more people to work remotely - and value a bit of green space.

Hide AdSavills added people valued the overall look of a village, its history, sense of commuity and outdoor green areas when looking to invest.
Average house prices in Haigh are £257,020, making it one of the more affordable villages on the list - below the UK average of £294,000 - and the village was praised for attractions like leafy Haigh Woodland Park, and the historic Haigh Hall and Haigh Windmill.
Frances Clacy, property analyst at Savills, said people want villages that ‘have a bit of everything, from schools to stunning countryside, with accessibility to cities and transport infrastructure.’
Other north west locations to make the list include Great Eccleston in Lancashire.
