11 nostalgic pictures showing how Manchester city centre streets have changed over the last century

These striking pictures show how the likes of St Ann’s Square and Deansgate have evolved over the last 100 years.

Manchester’s skyline is forever changing, whether it’s a new skyscraper being built or an old building being razed to the ground.

Some city centre streets have remained recognisable through the decades, no matter how much development goes on - though if you look back to the early 1900s, horses and carts were the common sight on the roads, not cars!

We’ve taken a nostalgic trawl through the archives to see what local landmark areas looked like over a century ago - from city squares like St Ann’s to the once-fine shopping parades along Deansgate.
