A city centre venue has revealed when it will reopen follow a three-month closure. Escape to Freight Island has been temporarily shut since December 2022 but today confirmed it will be ready to reopen on Saturday 1 April.

The Baring Street venue, which is home to a string of food and drink businesses and entertainment, said: “Walk up and walk right in to experience an array of food from independent vendors or grab a social drink. Whether you’re a day drinker or a night owl, either way, the stage is yours.”

Freight Island caused consternation last week, when staff employed by a parent company posted a letter on Reddit which suggested they would have to reapply to get their old jobs back with a new firm, Peppermint Events, taking over the running of bar services. However Freight Island confirmed to the Manchester Evening News in a statement last week that “the company has issued a new letter to staff to reassure them on their job roles” and to apologise for “confusion” over the original letter.
