The 2024 Manchester Marathon takes over the city on Sunday. Roads will be closed as thousands of participants take to the streets on April 14.

As well as the participants, thousands of spectators will line the streets of Manchester, hoping to catch a glimpse of friends or family members taking part. Amongst the crowded running contingent, this may be difficult.

However, marathon organisers have used technology to make it just a  bit easier to track the runners. This is in the form of an online tracker which can be accessed through the official Manchester Marathon website.

The system has been used for the last couple of years and, due to the success, it will be once again available this year. Marathon organisers outlined how it works.

They said: “Our timing points on the course will be placed at five locations (start, 10k, halfway, 30k and finish), and as a runner crosses this point their time will be instantly updated on the tracker. Between these points, the tracker will show a predicted location for each runner, based on their speed so far.

“This should offer an excellent rough guide for when to look out for a friend or loved one on the course, or follow their progress at home. After previous success, the adidas Manchester Marathon is offering the friends and family members of runners a nifty service that will send them a text message when you are nearing the finish section. This will give them notice that you are approaching the finale of your challenge, and to keep an eye on the finish line so they can witness your epic achievement.”

Plenty of other important pieces of information ahead of the marathon have also been released. This includes how to get to the start line and how you’ll be able to get around the city on the Metrolink tram system.

When will times be available?

Results and times will be available after the event. Organisers say to allow 45 minutes after finishing for your result to appear on the results page. Please note; if you check the below within 45min of finishing, you may show as DNF (did not finish) as the system has not had time to update. Do not worry if you see this, simply wait 30 minutes and then check again.
