A TV themed attraction at Salford Quays has closed just over a year after it was set up.

The I’m a Celebrity... Jungle Challenge has closed its doors ‘with immediate affect’ after ITV bosses said the attraction was “financially unviable going forward.” The themed interactive attraction was inspired by the Bushtucker trials on the ITV reality show, offering teams of visitors a series of challenges to complete, and was based at the Quayside (formerly Lowry centre). It was advertising for customers on its Facebook page just a few days ago during the busy half-term holidays.

However, today it revealed it was to close and has promised refunds to people who have already booked. In a statement on its website and Facebook page, operators said: “ITV has made the decision to close the IAC Jungle Challenge Attraction with immediate effect.

“All customers with future bookings will be automatically contacted via the booking email and fully refunded. Please allow 7 working days for the team to process your refund and for the money to appear back in your bank account.”

An ITV spokesman told ManchesterWorld: “ITV have made the decision to close the IAC Jungle Challenge Attraction as it has become financially unviable going forward.

“We’d like to express our thanks to the staff at our operator Continuum for their work during the time it has been open.

“Where practical we will seek to redeploy team members across our other attractions operated by Continuum.”

The closure comes as ITV announces contestants for the new series of the jungle based show. Competitors include MP Matt Hancock, DJ Chris Moyles and Manchester-based footballer Jill Scott. The 22nd series will start on Sunday 6 November at 9pm on ITV1.
