The unseasonably hot weather couldn’t last of course - but with the rain due to give way to drier, cloudier weather all day on Saturday and Sunday, there’s still hope for the city’s outdoor events this weekend.

Join fellow Father Ted fanatics and one of the show’s characters for a cinematic celebration of one of Channel 4’s best-loved comedies.

Joe featured as Father Damo in the episode The Old Grey Whistle Theft and the actor, comedian and singer-songwriter is making the journey from Ireland over to Wigan for a screening of that classic episode, a Q&A about his appearance in the sitcom and a stand-up gig. Over 14s only. Tickets from £15 at Quay tickets here.

Parklife

Heaton Park, Manchester, Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 September, all day

Following hot on the heels of New Order who play a gig in Heaton Park the night before, one of Manchester’s most fun music events is back after a fallow year.

The Monastery, Gorton, Saturday 11 September from 7.30pm

Beautiful candlelit surroundings and classic rock anthems should be paired together more often. Featuring a live cast of West End singers, accompanied by a live rock band, organisers Tightrope productions promise you will experience Queen as you have never heard them before.

Tickets can be bought at Tickettailor here.

Elizabeth Gaskell’s Second-Hand Book Sale

Elizabeth Gaskell’s House, 84 Plymouth Grove, Manchester, Sunday 12 September from 11am-3pm.

It’s been dubbed Manchester’s best second-hand book sale by some, and it’s a big draw if you love both all things literary and a good bargain. There are two rooms of vintage finds from all genres and prices start at £1 - with all proceeds going to the upkeep of the historic house. You need to book in advance on the house’s website here.
