Manchester boxer Lyndon Arthur is hoping his Christmas comes early when he challenges for a world title on the huge Saudi Arabia supershow featuring Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder. 

A remarkable card in the Middle East on December 23 will see Joshua face Otto Wallin and Wilder clash with Joseph Parker in the heavyweight division. Elsewhere on the packed card Arthur will get the biggest opportunity of his career when he challenges feared Russian light-heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol for his WBA World light-heavyweight title.

Now 32, popular Manchester fighter Lyndon Arthur, a big United fan, has lost just one fight as a professional - when he was stopped by Anthony Yarde in their big rematch back in 2021. Arthur had won the first fight though and the light heavyweight has an impressive 23-1 record after picking up the IBO version of the world title when he defeated Braian Nahuel Suarez in Bolton in September. Bivol will be a big step up in class and ‘King Arthur’ heads into the fight as a big underdog.

The Russian is one of boxing’s most feared fighters and having held the WBA World light-heavyweight title since 2017, he has won all 21 of his fights as a professional, some at the very highest level. His most notable victory came when he got the better of Mexican great Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez back in May 2022, winning on points over 12 rounds. 

When is Bivol v Arthur?

It features as part of the undercard at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on December 23 as the Saudi authorities continue to pump money into the sport after hosting Tyson Fury's narrow win over mixed-martial-arts star Francis Ngannou.

With the undercard action starting at just after 4pm UK time, the bout is expected to be at around 8.30pm with Joshua heading on last and Wilder before the Brit.

Sadly for fight fans Joshua and Wilder won’t be fighting each other. But in Wallin and Parker they will face tricky foes before eventually locking horns in 2024.
