The club has since condemned apparent abuse coming from some sections of the ground and has pledged to ban anyone found to have taken part.

In a statement, County said: “The Club has received a number of reports of racist and sectarian chanting from sections of the ground during our fixture (on Saturday 17 September) with Harrogate Town.

“This kind of behaviour is unacceptable and will not be tolerated at the Club – it has no place at County or in any of our communities.

“The matter is currently under investigation and any fans found to be engaging in this behaviour will be issued with banning orders from Edgeley Park.”
