Wolves show ‘serious interest’ in 25-year-old Man Utd ace as they plot bold summer rebuild
The latest twist in the Jadon Sancho transfer saga as Wolves emerge as shock suitors
Premier League strugglers Wolverhampton Wanderers have emerged as strong contenders to sign Jadon Sancho from Manchester United this summer in a surprising turn of events.
Wolves took another huge step towards securing their top-flight status by battling back from a goal down to secure a 2-1 victory at Portman Road over Ipswich Town. The win sent the Old Gold 12 points clear of the drop zone with seven games to spare in an improved run of form despite the absence of star performer Matheus Cunha due to suspension.
The Brazilian is expected to be the subject of rampant interest from several top Premier League clubs such as Arsenal, Liverpool, Newcastle and even Manchester United.
Football Transfers understands if a deal for Cunha to leave Wolves is to take place than Vitor Pereira and his recruitment team could potentially make a move for Sancho to add fresh firepower to the team’s frontline ahead of what the club will hope can be a much improved 2025/26 campaign.
What does the future hold for Jadon Sancho?
Man United signed Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund for a figure of £73m back in 2021. The England international arrived on the back of a strong campaign in the Bundesliga and had also formed part of the Three Lions squad which reached the European Championship final, with Sancho alongside Marcus Rashford and Bukayo Saka crucially missing penalties against Italy.
Sancho had been on United’s radar for a number of years after a number of stellar seasons in Black and Yellow. Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said at the time: "Jadon epitomises the type of player I want to bring to the club, he is a forward player in the best traditions of Manchester United.
"He will form an integral part of my squad for years to come and we look forward to seeing him blossom. His goals and assists records speak for themselves and he will also bring tremendous pace, flair and creativity to the team."
Sancho struggled to ever hit the heights expected of him at Old Trafford in his first two seasons and after being dropped for a game against Arsenal in September 2023 was involved in a high-profile disagreement over his attitude in training. In a situation not too dissimilar to that of Marcus Rashford he was frozen out of the team, before joining Dortmund on loan for six months where he reached the Champions League final.
He subsequently moved to Chelsea in the summer on a season-long loan with an obligation to buy, worth £20 million plus £5 million in performance-related add-ons, which would reportedly be triggered if Chelsea finish within the top 14 at the end of the season.
The 25-year-old slotted in nicely to the Blues team in the first few months but has experienced a dip in form in the second half of the campaign, prompting speculation that the London side could terminate the loan deal by paying United £5m upfront.
Wolves push to strike surprise deal
Football Transfers explains that Wolves are showing ‘serious interest’ in Jadon Sancho. The amount the club are willing to spend is not mentioned in the report but the outlet does state that the West Midlands side could be in a position to sign the 25-year-old for a cut-price fee.
Wolves want to add experience and quality to their squad to drive them up the league table and are understood to see Sancho as a player that could benefit the team hugely due to his profile, his Champions League experience and his pedigree when in full flow.
His best season to date saw him register 17 goals in 32 Bundesliga appearances and if they can get him anywhere near those levels he could prove imperative to the club’s chances of climbing the ladder next term.
