Manchester United have been linked with a move for a La Liga right-back as Erik ten Hag continues to search for reinforcements.

It has been a quiet window so far for United in terms of permanent incomings, and the club will to have to be patient amid the ongoing ownership situation. Loans and cheap transfers will look most likely, and the Red Devils have already brought in Jack Butland and Wout Weghorst on short-term deals.

However, they are being tipped to make a move for youngster Fresneda, and here we’ve taken a look at the youngster’s strengths and weaknesses.

Latest report

United are said to have joined the race to sign the Valladolid full-back this month.

The Red Devils have been linked with a number of right-backs, and it seems they could turn to Fresneda, who has attracted attention from a number of clubs this month, with the Telegraph recently stating he’s on the radars of Newcastle United and Arsenal. Football Insider have now claimed United have now joined the race and that the 18-year-old could be available for just £8.8million.

That could make him a very attractive target for United, who want to strengthen at right-back but without spending big, and they may be able to wait for Fresneda to develop given Wan-Bissaka’s improved form.

Fresneda’s strengths

The youngster has stood out for his ability to keep the ball at his feet, showing trickery where needed to beat players. Of course, he attacks high up the field and is not afraid to take on a man in his own half in a bid to open up attacking spaces for others.

Fresneda has a good delivery , and while he is not as fast as Wan-Bissaka, is certainly quick enough to keep up with attackers. In addition, he shows real intensity off the ball, and his strength is standing tackles, often remaining on his feet to dispossess opponents.

Weaknesses

Fresneda is still a young player and he needs to develop in some areas, but it is difficult to pick out weaknesses with the context of his youth.

That said, he probably needs to become a little smarter in deciding when to take on a man, especially if he is to play at a top club, while his decision-making over passes could improve, especially with long, riskier balls.
