Possible Manchester United target Jurrien Timber has already spoken about his future. The Red Devils have been relatively quiet in the January transfer window so far, only bringing in Wout Weghorst on a loan deal, with Erik ten Hag needing to plug a gap up top.

United are not able to spend big fees due to their potentially evolving ownership situation, but they may look to do deals if they make sense. One area Ten Hag has been keen to strengthen is right-back, though Aaron Wan-Bissaka has improved of late, potentially swaying his manager’s opinion on improving that area. Denzel Dumfries has been linked, but so has Ajax star Jurrien Timber, who has been impressing for Ajax for some time now.

Timber has been tipped to follow Ten Hag to Old Trafford since the summer, and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano believes the Red Devils are still interested. “Manchester United still remain interested in Jurrien Timber,” he said. “Erik ten Hag is said to ‘love’ the player. Timber knows his future likely lies in the Premier League.”

Interestingly, when Timber was being linked with a move away from Ajax in the summer, he spoke about his future and how it potentially lies elsewhere. He said: “I am now focusing on the upcoming international matches and then go on holiday. Then I’ll have to think about it some more. The picture has to be right. You can go to a big club. But if you’re not going to play there, it’s better to stay with Ajax.

“And Ajax is also a big club. We play football in the Champions League and I play there together with the best players in the Netherlands. That is not nothing.”

Timber ended up staying put, but seems he is well aware his future could lie elsewhere, and what better to find a big club that feels ‘right’ than working with your fellow countryman and former manager?
