Manchester United’s preparations for the 2022/23 camping campaign begin on Monday, when some of the first-team squad meet up for the start of pre-season training.
Erik ten Hag confirmed in his first press conference as United boss that his squad will return in the final week of June after some much-needed rest.
If the Dutchman didn’t know then about the pressures of managing one of the world’s biggest clubs in the world, he does now, with a small section of fans already growing frustrated at the lack of transfer business so far.
It means there will be no new faces when the group reconvene next week, although there have been a number of departures this summer, with Lee Grant, Nemaja Matic, Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Edinson Cavani all leaving.
They’re not the only players from the 2021/22 roster that will won’t be spotted at Carrington on Monday, with those involved in June’s international fixtures given extra time off by the club.
That includes the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes and captain Harry Maguire.
Meanwhile, there are a couple of injury concerns, with Victor Lindelof and Raphael Varane picking up knocks since the season culmination. The latter suffered a hamstring injury when playing for France, while Lindelof missed Sweden’s recent Nations League matches through injury.
Dean Henderson is also unlikely to be among those in attendance at Ten Hag’s first training session as the goalkeeper nears a loan move to Nottingham Forest.
In total, 16 players listed as ‘first team’ on the club’s website are expected to return to training on Monday, while several youth players will be drafted in to provide added numbers.
Here’s who we think will begin pre-season training next week…
