Manchester United could be closing in on their first summer signing, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The transfer guru tweeted updates on three moves regarding the Red Devils, including a current first-team player and a star whose contract expired at the end of the season.

United are yet to complete any business so far in the window, but have been linked with moves for Frenkie De Jong and Christian Eriksen, among others.

Meanwhile, all departures from Old Trafford this summer have been players moving on for free after their contracts expired.

But Romano seems to think that could change soon with money set to be exchanged for incomings and outgoings.

De Gea back-up imminent

The Italian tweeted on Wednesday evening to say the Red Devils are negotiating with Watford goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann, who would come in to provide back-up for David De Gea.

“Manchester United are in talks with Watford to sign Daniel Bachmann as 2/3 goalkeeper. Watford will only consider a permanent deal,” Romano wrote.

But the Austrian’s arrival means a current United keeper looks set to depart.

“Bachmann, among options for Man United to replace Dean Henderson who’s one step away from joining Nottingham Forest as revealed last week,” he added.

Youngster turns down United

Derby County talent Malcolm Ebiowei had been linked with a move to the Red Devils but it appears the 18-year-old has instead opted to join Premier League rivals Crystal Palace.

Romano tweeted: “English talent Malcolm Ebiowei won’t join Manchester United. He’s set to sign his contract with Crystal Palace after medicals completed this week, it’s a done deal.

“Ebiowei will leave Derby County to join Palace - contract will be valid until June 2027.”

The winger broke into the Derby team in the second half of last season and impressed under Wayne Rooney’s watch.

Pogback, the sequel

Paul Pogba’s controversial departure from United could be finally put to bed soon, with the World Cup winner supposedly on the verge of agreeing a deal with Juventus.

The Frenchman departed the Red Devils on a free transfer earlier this month, but his controversial documentary left a sour taste in the mouths of United fans.

“Paul Pogba’s agent will meet with Juventus tomorrow [Thursday] to complete the negotiations for his comeback. It’s just matter of final details then deal will be signed,” Romano claimed late on Wednesday.

“Pogba only wanted Juventus and he’s expected in Italy for medicals at the beginning of July.”

This will be the second time in his career that the midfielder has moved from United to Juventus for free, having done the same in 2012.
