Where are the 13 Manchester United players signed by Louis van Gaal now?
Louis van Gaal may have underwhelmed as Manchester United boss, but some of his signings have had impressive careers, be it at Old Trafford or beyond.
Louis van Gaal’s time at Manchester United wasn’t a particularly successful one, but not of his signings disappointed.
The experienced Dutch boss arrived at Old Trafford in 2014, hoping to take United back to where they needed to be after a failed David Moyes experiment.
In his first season at the club, van Gaal managed to improve to a fourth place finish, but it all went wrong in the back-end of the second season.
United missed out on the top four and had to settle for an FA Cup win before van Gaal was sent on his way in 2016.
He has since returned to his post as Netherlands boss, but what has happened to the 13 senior signings he made during his time at Old Trafford?
We take a look below:
In his first season at the club, van Gaal managed to improve to a fourth place finish, but it all went wrong in the back-end of the second season.

5. Marcos Rojo
Rojo was one of van Gaal’s early signings, joining for around £18million from Sporting CP in 2014. He went on to make 122 appearances for the Reds and will go down as a pretty successful signing. Rojo eventually left to return home with Boca Juniors last year, where he remains.

6. Matteo Darmian
Darmian joined United for just over £16million in 2015, and he made a respectable 92 appearances during his four years at the club. The Italian would have hoped to have made much more, though, and he has since gone on to join Parma and then Inter Milan. He spent last season on loan with Inter, winning Serie A, and he has since joined the San Siro club permanently.

7. Daley Blind
Blind was snatched up for around £15million from Ajax in 2014, with van Gaal bringing a fellow Dutchman to Old Trafford. He made 141 appearances for United and will be seen as another good signing in the long run. Though, since returning to Ajax in 2018, he has gone from strength-to-strength, and he is part of a very talented side under Eric ten Haag.

8. Bastian Schweinsteiger
For just £8million, World Cup winner and seasoned pro Bastian Schweinsteiger was an opportunity United couldn’t miss. The midfielder made 35 appearances for United, and stuck around for two years before leaving for Chicago Fire. He hung up his boots Stateside. He is now an analyst with a German broadcaster.
