What Ruben Amorim said about Marcus Rashford future at Manchester United in latest update
The Man Utd forward was in the stands as his side defeated Rangers in the Europa League on Thursday night.
Ruben Amorim admits he still doesn't know what the future holds for Marcus Rashford at Manchester United after he returned to first-team training this week.
The 27-year-old has not played in the last 10 matches for his boyhood club and has only been named on the bench once during that period, when they had a selection shortage against Newcastle.
Rashford was reintegrated into training earlier this week but was not named in the matchday squad when they faced Rangers in the Europa League on Thursday night. The academy graduated was spotted watching the 2-1 win from the Old Trafford stands, while he also uploaded a picture from the ground to his official Instagram account.
United had hoped to sell Rashford this month but it is increasingly likely he will remain at the club amid a lack of interest in his signature. His hefty wage demands and sizeable transfer valuation make a permanent exit unlikely, while few sides could fund a loan move. Alejandro Garnacho could be sold instead to ease United's tight financial situation, though it is unclear what the short-term future holds for Rashford after publicly falling out of favour with Amorim.
Speaking ahead of the trip to face Fulham in the Premier League this weekend, Amorim was quizzed on Rashford's reintegration and whether he could remain at the club. "I don’t know. I really don’t know," he said. "Guys, it’s eight days. We will see in the end of the window what happened. And then we will talk about that in the moment."
United head into the match with a double injury scare to defensive duo Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro, while teammate Luke Shaw is yet to return to training. Asked for a team news update ahead of the Craven Cottage clash, the head coach added: "I don’t know. Leny has a pain, also Mattha, I think was a bruise, a touch. Leny was a little bit tired, he’s playing more in this moment so we have to be really careful. We’ll see. I don’t know.
"(Shaw?) No, he’s going to be fit to train with the team. And then we have to start doing small minutes, we don’t have a lot of time to train, we have to put in some exercises in ten minutes, then he has to make extra work to improve his fitness, so I don’t know. It’s two weeks to start training and to start thinking about putting him in a few minutes."
