What it could take for Man Utd to sign Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting as Erik ten Hag stance 'revealed'

Man Utd have been linked with the Bayern Munich man among a number of forwards this month.

Manchester United are thought to remain interested in Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting but reports in Germany suggest it would take an 'immoral offer' to lure him away from Bayern Munich.

United have been linked with a surprise move for Choupo-Moting this month as manager Erik ten Hag scours the market for attacking reinforcements to aid the young Rasmus Hojlund. The Dutchman is thought to be open to signing a more experienced No.9 but financial constraints mean any arrival will likely be on loan.

FootballTransfers reports that interest in the Cameroon international is genuine and Ten Hag is keen to find an upgrade on current back-up Anthony Martial. It adds that United are exploring the possibility of a six-month loan, believing that such a deal would help them push up the Premier League table between now and May.

But while United's interest is known, Sky Germany reports that Choupo-Moting's exit from Bayern is unlikely. The 34-year-old is leaning towards staying in Germany and his current club are keen to keep a senior option in what is a light area of the pitch.

Bayern are currently seven points short of Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen in what could be their biggest title challenge for years, alongside last season's race against Borussia Dortmund. Thomas Tuchel's side are also in the Champions League knockout stages and so strength in depth is crucial.

A move has not been completely ruled out, although the report states that it would take an 'immoral' offer to convince Bayern to cash in. It would likely also have to be concluded in time for them to source a replacement, with just eight days left of the window.

United will have Martial as part of their squad for the remainder of the season after his agent confirmed the striker will play out his current contract, which expires in June. The club opted against activating a 12-month extension at a point when they did for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof and Hannibal Mejbri.

Ten Hag insisted United were in talks with Martial and Raphael Varane but as it stands, both will leave on a free in the summer. It is at that point which the club will likely look for a more long-term forward.
