Latest Manchester United takeover news involving the Glazers, Sheikh Jassim and Sir Jim Ratcliffe

Speculation surrounding a takeover for Manchester United has been swirling yet no solution has been found yet. The Glazers have yet to decide on whether they want to resume ownership of the club or sell to a new buyer. There has been significant interest from Sheikh Jassim and Sir Jim Ratcliffe in taking over at Old Trafford.

However, with the Glazers reluctant to make a decision, it seems that United are stuck in a stalemate. Both Ratcliffe and Sheikh Jassim have made bids for the club, however neither have reached the Glazers’ desired price of £6 billion. However, according to reports the potential buyers are not willing to pay more to purchase United, but a further bid from Sheikh Jassim is not out of the question.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Journalist Ben Jacobs said: “With the takeover, we’re just seeing a bit of a PR game. Because Manchester United are not succeeding on the field, of course, the suitors are indicating that they don’t want to raise their value.

“Sheikh Jassim in particular has always said that he believes the Nine Two Foundation are paying well above the market value of the club, which statistically is correct. And that’s why they have been reluctant to go too far north of £5 billion.

“But ultimately, the timing of sources indicating that neither group want to go higher, is obviously synced up with Manchester United’s poor run of form and that sends a message in the media that puts pressure on the Glazers to finally make up their minds as far as the groups are concerned.”

Many United fans will be desperate for a change in ownership as the Glazers have spent big money on players that are yet to deliver on the pitch. In August, fans at Old Trafford held a sit-in protest following a Premier League match against Nottingham Forest.

Jacobs added: “I still don’t think that we can rule out another bid from, in particular, Sheikh Jassim, simply because we got told after the final bid deadline in April, that that would be the last offer. Then we got told after the fourth bid that that would be the last offer then we got told after the fifth bid that that would be the last offer.

“So you can never rule out another offer in this type of takeover. And ultimately, if Sheikh Jassim in particular wants Manchester United, he may eventually have to pay what it takes, or certainly get closer to that £6bn number.”
