Malacia played 50 times last season and obviously caught the eye of Erik ten Hag, who could make the Netherlands international his first new recruit.

As per the Manchester Evening News, a ‘deal in principle’ has been agreed to sign Malacia for £12.9m (€15m).

Meanwhile, French outlet L’Equipe say Malacia has ‘chosen’ United, despite Lyon discussing a deal with the Dutchman for ‘days’. They also claim the Ligue 1 club raised their offer to Feyenoord by €1m in an effort to conclude the transfer, but Malacia is set to join the Premier League side.

In-the-know Fabrizio Romano tweeted on Wednesday morning to say the player’s agent and United ‘are in direct contact’, with the Red Devils feeling ‘positive’ that a deal will be wrapped up soon.
