Two Manchester United stars warned they could 'lose out' from huge Ruben Amorim change
Man Utd head coach Ruben Amorim could change formation at Old Trafford and it might be bad news for two players.
Manchester United midfielders Casemiro and Christian Eriksen have both been warned they could be big losers from any potential formation change under new head coach Ruben Amorim.
The 39-year-old started work in his new role at the beginning of the international break, before he took charge of his first training session on Monday and Amorim will hope to showcase a new-look United side when they face Ipswich Town in the Premier League on Sunday.
Although it might take a while before the head coach has the team playing in his preferred style, there could be a different look about them when they take to the pitch at Portman Road. The Portuguese coach is expected to switch to a 3-4-3 formation, a huge change that could benefit the current crop of defenders, but be bad news for their midfielders.
“I think this could be a big chance for Harry Maguire. I am not sure if Amorim sticks with that 3-4-3 formation he plays at Sporting though," former assistant manager Rene Meulensteen told Betway. “It could benefit players, there are a number of centre backs that are used to playing in a back three, whether it is [Lisandro] Martinez alongside [Matthijs] De Ligt and maybe the young [Lenny] Yoro when he gets fit. Or maybe Maguire fits in there as well.
“In the midfield, you would think that maybe Casemiro and [Christian] Eriksen would lose out because, obviously you need energy and as well as that, the ability to find the passes between the lines and in the pockets. However, this system may see all players struggle in certain positions because it is something different than what [Erik] Ten hag was playing, who was opting more for a 4-2-3-1 or a 4-3-3 so it is interesting to see how he could go about that with this group of players.”
