Manchester United defender 'very down' after latest injury setback

Man Utd could be without as many as five senior defenders when they face Ipswich Town this weekend.

Ruben Amorim could have a defensive injury crisis to deal with when he takes charge of Manchester United for the very first time this weekend.

United are back in Premier League action when they face Ipswich Town on Sunday afternoon, but they could be without as many as five senior defenders for the clash at Portman Road.

Leny Yoro is still working hard to regain match fitness after his setback in pre-season, while Lisandro Martinez withdrew from Argentina duty with a back injury and Victor Lindelof limped off for Sweden at the weekend. England duo Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw are still side lined after their respective injury issues.

Amorim will likely offer an update on his squad when he speaks to the press ahead of their clash with Ipswich at the end of the week, but the early suggestion is that Lindelof could be missing from his first match day squad.

The 30-year-old has withdrawn from the Sweden squad after he picked up an injury in the Nations League win over Slovakia and Bologna full-back Emil Holm revealed the United defender was feel deflated after his latest setback.

“It’s very sad. He just come back from injury and then to get another injury, you suffer with that. It was tough to see,” he told reporters after the match. “He was very down in the dressing room too. He’s an important man in the team, he’s captain anyway. No, it was a shame.”

When asked if he said anything to Lindelof, Holm added: “I gave him a hug and told him to get well.”
