There’s never a shortage of transfer rumours when it comes to Manchester United, and there are almost hourly updates on the club’s perspective targets.

With Ole Gunnar Solskjaer amassing a very deep squad, it seems likely we’ll see a few departures before the window shuts on 31 August.

We’ve rounded up all the latest reports concerning the Red Devils into an all-you-need to know quick read.

Kieran Trippier

United and Arsenal have been told by Atletico Madrid that they are not willing to enter into negotiations for the full-back. Trippier is likely to cost any interested parties around £50m. AS.

A deal is not ‘off the table’ for Trippier, but looks increasingly unlikely. Manchester Evening News

Our view

This has been one of the odder reports this summer given United already have an extremely reliable right-back in Aaron Wan-Bissaka. Paying £50m for a player who would most probably be rotated along with Wan-Bissaka makes no sense at all, and it seems clear this transfer won’t happen.

Midfield option

The Red Devils want to add another midfielder to their ranks this summer and may use any fees recouped from selling Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard towards purchasing a new addition in the centre of the park. Manchester Evening News.

Our view

United are linked with a new midfielder almost every day, so there does seem to be some truth in these rumours. However, Pogba looks likely to stay at Old Trafford meaning they may struggle to raise the funds for another option in centre-midfield. With Fred, Scott McTominy, Nemanja Matic as their main options, there is room for an upgrade, but after a summer of heavy spending any new recruits in this department may have to wait until next year.

Pape Sarr

Journalist Jonathan Shrager believes Pape Sarr is more likely to join Manchester City than United.

Our view

City’s pursuit could be hampered by their plans to sign Harry Kane. Should they fork out £150m for the England captain, there seems little chance of the club signing Sarr too. United have developed a habit in recent years of buying young players and maturing them, such as Amad and Facundo Pelistri, so a move for this highly coveted youngster could be a possibility.

Aurelien Tchouameni

Shrager also believes United are interested in Aurelien Tchouameni, although that’s an opinion Fabrizio Romano doesn’t share.

Our view

Fabrizio tends to know his stuff when it comes to transfers, so we’ll side with him on this one.

Paul Pogba

The United midfielder is set to be offered a new contract at the club worth around £400,000 per week. The proposed deal would run until 2025 and make him the Red Devils’ highest-earning player. However, Pogba is in no rush to make a decision on any contract offers. The Athletic.

Our view

You can expect a new update on Pogba tomorrow, and the next day, and the next day… Given Lionel Messi’s transfer to Paris Saint-Germain, a move to his native France appears unlikely in this window and it would be a surprise if a new contract was agreed with United before the transfer deadline. Pogba’s camp have made enough noise in the past to indicate he’d like another challenge, and this could be his last season at Old Trafford.

Jesse Lingard

West Ham United still want to sign the midfielder, but are reluctant to match the Red Devils’ £25m valuation of the player. Manchester Evening News.

Our view

We wrote in depth about Lingard’s future earlier this week, but it’s probably in everyone’s best interests for him to move on.

Andreas Pereira

The Brazilian is set to join Flamengo on loan. Globo.

Our view

Pereira clearly doesn’t fit into Solskjaer’s plans after he was farmed out on loan last season. Ideally, a permanent transfer would be agreed, but in this complicated market a loan deal seems likely. It’s likely we’ll see a lot of similar moves by unwanted stars of big clubs in the coming two weeks.

Teden Mengi & James Garner

The pair are expected to leave United on loan before the end of the month. The latter seems set for a return to Nottingham Forest, where he played during the second half of last season, but Mengi’s potential destination remains unsure. Mirror.

This makes sense for everyone and allows the youngsters to gain valuable first-team minutes away from United. I’d like to have seen Garner in the Premier League after he performed so well at Forest last season and I expect he’ll thrive back in the Championship, however the second tier seems to be the right level for Mengi at this stage. I think both players could hold down a place in Solskjaer’s squad next season if they were to excel on loan this term.
