Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed the loan signing of forward Timo Werner from RB Leipzig ahead of their trip to Manchester United on Sunday.

Werner will join up with Ange Postecoglou's side for the remainder of the season, subject to international clearance. The German international is expected to be part of the squad that travels to Old Trafford for a huge Premier League clash on Sunday.

United had been linked with a move for Werner earlier this month, with manager Erik ten Hag keen to add more attacking threat to his squad. United's meagre total of 22 Premier League goals is only better than Burnley and Sheffield United.

But Tottenham moved quickly to land the 27-year-old and after finalising the terms with Leipzig. They can make his move to North London permanent in the summer for a fee believed to be around £15million.

Werner returns to the Premier League after an underwhelming two-year spell at Chelsea between 2020 and 2022. The much-maligned frontman scored 23 goals in 89 appearances for the Blues but became the subject of frustration among fans for his wastefulness in front of goal.

He returned to former club Leipzig at the start of last season and has netted 18 goals in the year-and-a-half since. Werner will take the No.16 shirt and could make his debut against United on Sunday.

Postecoglou made the move to strengthen his attacking unit, with both Heung-Min Son and James Maddison absent for Sunday's trip to Old Trafford. Son is representing South Korea at the Asia Cup while Maddison is currently out with an ankle injury.

Tottenham are also hoping to get a deal for centre-back Radu Dragusin finalised in the coming days after having a £21.5million offer accepted by Genoa. But late on Tuesday evening, reports surfaced suggesting Bayern Munich had also agreed a deal with the Serie A side, casting his move to the Premier League side into doubt.

Spurs will have to have any new signings registered by 12pm on Friday in order for them to be available by Sunday.
