Manchester United wonderkid Alejandro Garnacho has seen his popularity soar since netting an out-of-this-world bicycle kick against Everton last weekend.

The 19-year-old has been one of the Red Devils' most exciting talents since his first-team debut last April, becoming a regular under Erik ten Hag and picking up seven goals and five assists in his 53 appearances. However, the hype around the Spaniard reached a fever pitch as his audacious volley hit the top corner of Jordan Pickford's goal.

New data uncovered by CasinosSweeps found that the winger gained a huge 472,000 Instagram followers in the two days after his goal - over 350,000 of those coming on Monday alone. That stat meant that Garnacho's average daily follower increase exploded by 9072% as his total followers on the social media platform climbed to 8.3 million users.

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag heaped praise on his young talent after the match, labelling the goal as 'incredible, fantastic'. The Red Devils boss also responded to comparisons between Garnacho and Wayne Rooney, who of course scored a similar goal during his time at the club.

Ten Hag said: “Don’t compare, I don’t think it’s right. They all have their own identity. For Garnacho to go that way he has to work very hard and do it on a consistent basis. So far he has not, but he definitely has high potential to do some amazing things.

“It is not the first time we see this, we see often glimpses, but if you want to be a player like Rooney or Ronaldo you have to score 20, 25 goals in the Premier League. It’s not easy to get, you have to work very hard and go in ways where it hurts. A lot to come but he has potential.”

As well as seeing a boost in online followers, interest in Manchester United shirts with Garnacho's name on the back spiked in the days after the win over Everton with online searches for 'Garnacho shirt' soaring by 1105% moments after his strike.

Sales of kits with the player's name more than tripled (232%) compared to the previous Sunday with the youngster accounting for 25% of all hero sales on United Direct on Sunday, according to Fanatics.
