The World Cup is just two months away and though there is still some Premier League and European football to be played, fans and pundits will already be expecting Gareth Southgate to have his 23-26-man England squad in mind.

Among that list will likely include several Manchester United players with Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw part of the Three Lions’ Nations League squad for their upcoming games with Italy and Germany.

Southgate will be hoping to turn his team’s fortunes around with Maguire and Shaw potentially getting game time.

The Red Devils pair have been criticised by fans and pundits for their performances last season and the beginning of this campaign, which have resulted in them being named on the bench.

However, both players have been key for England in previous years and will be in contention for a spot in Southgate’s World Cup squad in November.

With that being said, let’s take a look at the four United players expected to be selected for the Three Lions’ World Cup squad…

Harry Maguire

One of the most controversial selections by Southgate for England’s Nations League games due to his consistent poor form with United, Harry Maguire is one of Southgate’s most trusted defenders in previous years and it doesn’t look like that will change for the World Cup.

Luke Shaw

A solid performer for the Three Lions especially when going forward, Luke Shaw seems to be second choice left-back at United after the arrival and consistency that Tyrell Malacia is showing so far. Despite this, he is likely to battle with Chelsea’s Ben Chilwell for a starting place in Southgate’s team at the World Cup.

The forward struggled for form last season but seems to have rediscovered it this campaign, scoring three goals and assisting his teammates on two occasions so far. His absence from Southgate’s Nations League squad is due to injury, when fit, he’ll likely be seen as England’s alternative option to Harry Kane up top.

Jadon Sancho

Another player who struggled for form last season, Jadon Sancho has been one of United’s better performers this campaign, netting three times in eight appearances in all competitions. If his form continues, it would be hard to look past recalling him to the squad for the World Cup.
