Erik ten Hag has revealed he is looking to hold a meeting with the Glazer family as the potential takeover at Manchester United rumbles on.

Almost nine months have passed since the current Red Devils owners revealed they would consider a sale of the club in a statement that seemed to indicate the beginning of the end for their time at Old Trafford. In the announcement the Glazers said they would ‘consider a number of options “including new investment into the club, a sale, or other transactions involving the company’.

Several parties indicated an interest in investing or taking sole charge of the 13-time Premier League champions before Qatari businessman Sheikh Jassim and Britain’s richest man Sir Jim Ratcliffe emerged as frontrunners to take control of the club.

However, there have been fears over the Glazers intentions as confirmation of progress over any potential transaction with a new investor or owner is awaited. The delay has not prevented United manager Ten Hag from adding to his squad after he completed the signing of Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana and Chelsea attacking midfielder Mason Mount at a cost of over £100million.

A striker is said to be next on the agenda for the United boss and Atalanta star Rasmus Hojlund is said to be high on his list of priorities. Ten Hag was asked about the club’s finances and the prolonged takeover and he revealed he is keen to discuss the situation with the current key holders at Old Trafford.

Speaking at a press conference, the United boss said: “That’s also a club decision. I’m more often in contact with them (the Glazers) so this is a good opportunity to share ideas and we can talk informally. It is obvious I can give advice and recommendations, but the decision is on the club.

When asked about the impact on his ongoing attempts to strengthen his squad, Ten Hag said: “You make the question to the wrong person. Finance is not for me, I am aware about FFP (Financial Fair Play) rules. But across United, we do everything to get that target in.”
