Erik ten Hag has admitted he is not sure if Marcus Rashford will be fit to face Newcastle United in Sunday’s Carabao Cup final.

The Manchester United forward was replaced in the latter stages of Thursday’s 2-1 win over Barcelona and removed his boot as he made his way around the outskirts of the pitch at Old Trafford. Rashford also posted a cryptic Instagram post with a bandage emoji and was spotted limping out of the ground.

It has put the England international’s involvement in Sunday’s final into doubt, with concern United’s in-form man may be ruled out. And speaking on Friday ahead of the game, Ten Hag gave a non-committal response when asked whether Rashford will be fit for the clash at Wembley.

“I don't know,” the United boss said. “Players are now coming in, we have to do investigations, medical, so straight after a game you can't say, you have to wait for medical.”

Should Rashford miss out then Ten Hag will likely select two of Jadon Sancho, Antony and Alejandro Garnacho in the wide areas.

Meanwhile, Ten Hag confirmed that Anthony Martial will not be fit in time to face Newcastle. “No, he will not be available,” said the former Ajax manager.

Martial has missed 25 games this season with various injuries and is currently struggling with a hip issue. The striker returned to individual training this week but is not yet able to take part in contact sessions with his team-mates. His absence means Wout Weghost is likely to start against the Magpies. Christian Eriksen and Donny van de Beek will also miss out with long-term injuries.
