Manchester United have set an asking price of £40m for midfielder Scott McTominay, according to reports.

The Scotland international, a regular in the side during the tenures of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick, struggled to hold down a place in the side last season. McTominay started six of the first seven Premier League matches in 2022/23 but was only selected from the off four times in the final 31 outings.

Erik ten Hag is planning a midfield overhaul and has already brought in Mason Mount from Chelsea, while he is hoping to add Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat to the United ranks in the coming weeks. Kobbie Mainoo is also expected to play a more significant role in the first team this season, along with existing options Casemiro, Christian Eriksen and Bruno Fernandes.

But Ten Hag is willing to let McTominay move on, along with Fred and Donny van de Beek, while young midfielders Zidane Iqbal, Charlie Savage and Ethan Galbraith have already departed.

As for McTominay, he has reportedly drawn interest from West Ham United, with the Hammers in need of new options in the middle following Declan Rice’s move to Arsenal. The Guardian claim United will allow McTominay to leave if they receive an offer of £40m from David Moyes’ side.

They add West Ham have already been in contact over a transfer, with McTominay open to staying at Old Trafford but is conscious of his game time if he is to retain his place in the Scotland side.
