'That is easy' - Ruben Amorim sends message to Man City star Kevin De Bruyne ahead of summer exit

Manchester City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne has confirmed he will leave the club in the summer transfer window.

Ruben Amorim joked Kevin De Bruyne played 'on the wrong side of Manchester' after the midfielder confirmed he would leave Man City this summer following a decade at the club. The 33-year-old took to social media on Friday lunchtime to announce this season would be his last with the club and he will depart when his current contract expires at the end of the campaign.

De Bruyne has won 16 trophies since he joined from Wolfsburg in 2015, including six Premier League titles and the Champions League. He ranks second for the most assists in Premier League history and has scored 106 goals in 413 appearances for the club.

He is the only current City player who was at the club before Pep Guardiola took charge. The Belgian playmaker joined for £55 million in the 2015 summer transfer window under Manuel Pellegrini before Guardiola arrived at the Etihad Stadium the following summer.

Ruben Amorim hails Kevin de Bruyne

Speaking at his press conference on Friday afternoon, Ruben Amorim hailed Kevin de Bruyne for his impact at Man City and joked that his only problem was playing for the wrong team in the city.

"That is easy, he was one of the best midfielders in the Premier League,” Amorim said. “The time passes to everyone, so it is a natural thing. He improved the league. He was on the wrong side of Manchester! So I wish him good luck. It was a pleasure to see him in Portugal a lot of times."

Amorim has already tasted victory twice over City this season, once with Sporting in the Champions League and once with United in the Premier League. The Blues might not be the same force they have been in recent years, but the United head coach expects another tough clash when they meet at Old Trafford this weekend.

He added: "I am more focused on our problems, I think we have bigger problems than Manchester City. They had that run in that moment, but they improved, and they can play in different ways. It is really hard to think how they can face us. They have maybe the best coach in the world. They have top players, but I am so focused on my team. Just try to understand how Man City are going to play."
