When Ruben Amorim will begin work as Manchester United head coach as deal officially announced

Ruben Amorim has been named as the new Man Utd head coach and here is everything you need to know about the deal.

Manchester United have officially confirmed the appointment of Ruben Amorim as their new head coach on an initial deal until 2027, subject to work visa requirements.

The 39-year-old will continue to manage Sporting CP for their next three matches before taking charge of United on Monday 11 November once he has fulfilled his current contract obligations. His first game will be away against Ipswich Town on Sunday 24 November.

Amorim was quickly identified as the top candidate to replace Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford, as United chiefs believed he ticked more boxes than any other option for the role.

The Sporting boss is viewed as one of the most promising young coaches in world football, while his recent track record and ability to work within a club hierarchy are also viewed as attractive qualities. A great deal of emphasis has also been placed on Amorim’s reputation of nurturing young talent.

Club sources insist Amorim was the only coach they spoke to in the latest process to replace Erik ten Hag and that there were no other conversations.

An official club statement read: “Manchester United is delighted to announce the appointment of Rúben Amorim as Head Coach of the men’s first team, subject to work visa requirements. He has signed a contract until June 2027 with a club option of an additional year.

“He will join Manchester United on Monday 11 November once he has fulfilled his obligations with Sporting CP.Rúben is one of the most exciting and highly rated young coaches in European football. Highly decorated as both a player and coach, his titles include winning the Primeira Liga twice in Portugal with Sporting CP, the first of which was the club’s first title in 19 years. Ruud van Nistelrooy will continue to take charge of the team until Rúben joins.”
