Ruben Amorim offers 25-goal target 'juicy contract' and 'promises him the dream' at Man United

Ruben Amorim is looking to flex his muscles on the transfer market with Manchester United.

Manchester United missed out on their chance to extend their latest winning streak after Arsenal secured a 2-0 lead in their midweek Premier League clash. The Gunners made sure to bank maximum points after leaders Liverpool were forced to settle for a draw against Newcastle United.

As the final weeks of 2024 tick down, there is little time to rest, with a jam-packed schedule up ahead. United will return to action on Saturday when they host Nottingham Forest, who have been knocking on the door for European football qualification so far this season, despite tussling with a relegation battle last campaign.

The fight in the middle of the table is heating up and this weekend could completely rearrange the order between sixth and 13th. United are currently down in 13th on 19 points, while Fulham occupy sixth-place, but only ahead by three points. The Red Devils could potentially jump as high as seven places in the table this weekend if they can beat Forest and others in front of them also drop points.

New manager Rúben Amorim has won two of his four games in charge so far, including a comfortable 4-0 win over Everton. As January approaches, rumours are starting to circulate as the Portuguese manager considers his options for his first transfer window.

Despite contrasting reports, it was recently revealed that Amorim ‘does want a reunion’ with some of his former players from Sporting CP. United have recently been linked with winger Geovany Quenda but now, the highly sought-after Viktor Gyökeres is on the radar. A number of clubs have been showing interest in the Sweden international for a long time but according to El Nacional, Amorim is ‘ready to do anything’ to bring Gyökeres to Old Trafford.

Barcelona are among the other interested parties monitoring the 26-year-old striker who already has 25 goals in 22 games so far this season. Amid the interest from the Blaugrana, Amorim is throwing everything at making this deal happen. The report claims that the United boss has offered Gyökeres a ‘juicy contract’ and has also ‘promised him the dream’ of playing Champions League football at Old Trafford.

The main competitors in the running for Gyökeres are United and Barcelona but naturally, Amorim being his former manager could tip the scales in the Red Devils’ direction. The report doesn’t include an asking price but another source claims Sporting CP will initially demand a fee of €70 million (£58m) plus add-ons for their star goalscorer.
