Ralf Rangnick gives final Manchester United transfer update in the January window

Ralf Rangnick has given a final transfer update this month, and has said that negotiations are ongoing surrounding potential outgoings from Manchester United.

The interim manager made the comments after the Red Devils’ 1-0 win over West Ham United on Saturday, and with a two-week international break set to follow, it was the final opportunity for reporters to pose questions to the German before the window closes.

Rangnick was asked whether he expects anyone to leave the club before the end of January, with the 63-year-old admitting he’s unsure which players could depart in the next week.

“I don’t know,” he responded in the post-match press conference. “I know which players would want to leave, and I know there are negotiations with clubs. But, as I’ve said, I’m not involved with that.

“I will probably be posted and aware of things that are happening, but in the end we will all have to wait and see what will happen.”

Chief among those who could leave this month are Dean Henderson, Donny van de Beek, Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial, all of whom have been linked with permanent and loan moves this month.

Of those, a switch to Newcastle United for Lingard, and Martial’s potential move to Sevilla seem the most likely transfers.

Eric Bailly, Phil Jones, Alex Telles, Juan Mata and Amad have also been mentioned in the United transfer rumours this month, but moves for these players seem unlikely at this late stage in the market.

None of the quintet were involved on Saturday as United beat West Ham 1-0, with Marcus Rashford netting the only goal of the game in injury-time.

It’s a result, coupled with Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur dropping points on Sunday, that sees United occupy fourth spot.

The Red Devils are next in action on Friday 4 February when they face Middlesbrough, before they travel to Burnley four days later in the Premier League.
