Manchester United have had a lot to celebrate over the past week after knocking Barcelona out of the Europa League then going onto lift the Carabao Cup. However, celebrations will only be brief as they host West Ham in the FA Cup on Wednesday.

The Red Devils will be even more eager to take on Liverpool this weekend after failing to win at Anfield since 2016. United conceded nine goals to the Reds last season, however they will look to do the double over them after their 2-1 victory at Old Trafford back in August.

Ahead of another action-packed week, we look at the latest headlines at Man United...

Erik ten Hag brings back the ‘fear’

Former Liverpool striker Stan Collymore has praised Erik ten Hag and has claimed he has brought the fear and belief back to Old Trafford. United are unbeaten on home soil since defeat to Real Sociedad in September, while their run in the Premier League stretches back to August.

Speaking to CaughtOffside, Collymore said: “Man United looked like a team with great belief and that is a testament to the job Erik Ten Hag has done. The team, on the whole, are going from strength to strength and they’ll now be looking at the Premier League table and feel like they’re in a position to effect the outcome.

“As for how the squad looks with a few months to go – they look humble and fit and raring to go. I think other clubs, home and abroad, will be looking at Man United with a sense of worry.”

The Carabao Cup victory was United’s first bit of silverware since they lifted the same trophy, alongside the Europa League, in 2017. Jose Mourinho is the only manager to win more than one trophy at the club since Sir Alex Ferguson.

Kompany on Weghorst

Vincent Kompany has congratulated Wout Weghorst on his Carabao Cup medal despite his obvious Manchester City connections. The striker is on loan from Burnley and could link up with the former City captain in the summer.

Speaking in his press conference, Kompany said: Well done for him, of course, it’s a great achievement. There’s players who land in like almost a basket of trophies from the moment they’re born but most of us have to really fight to get to ever lift a trophy. He’s doing that at the moment and I can appreciate that this is an incredible moment.

“I hope he’s doing to enjoy it and make the most of it and.. yeah… it’s a difficult one on a personal level. As many as he wins, the happier we are for him… but I can’t quite say that can I?”

Weghorst’s future remains uncertain as he looks unlikely to join United permanently at the end of the season. The Dutchman’s stay at Turf Moor may depend on the league they are in next season. When asked about Weghorst’s situation, Kompany said: “He is a Premier League player and we are a Championship club. As long as that hasn’t changed it is not something that I can discuss. Let us do what we need to do first, which is win more games and then I’m sure there will be a moment when the discussion becomes relevant but that is not the case yet.”
