Stuart Pearce believes Harry Maguire should leave Manchester United for another Premier League club this winter. The January transfer window is now open and the former England full-back thinks he would be better off heading out the exit door at Old Trafford.

Maguire, 29, has slipped down the pecking order over recent games and came off the bench this weekend as the Red Devils won 1-0 away at Wolves courtesy of Marcus Rashford’s second-half winner. Speaking on talkSPORT, Pearce has said that West Ham, Newcastle United and Aston Villa should snap him up this month:

“If I was West Ham, if I was Newcastle, if I was Aston Villa, I’d be all over trying to get Harry Maguire out of there. I’d be asking the question whether he’s available. He’d be a brilliant addition to a football club. He’s the right age, the right stature, right experience. He might just need another challenge now as he’s not getting regular football.”

United landed the England international back in 2019 from Leicester City but he has divided opinion since his switch to the North West. He has made 155 games in all competitions and has scored seven goals from the back.

Maguire started his career at local side Sheffield United and broke into their first-team as a youngster before going on to play 166 times. Hull City handed him his first top flight move back in 2014 and he spent three years with the Tigers, part of which he spent on loan at Wigan Athletic.

Erik ten Hag has opted to start usual left-back Luke Shaw in the centre of defence over him over the past two league matches. Maguire’s contract expires in the summer of 2025 but it remains to be seen whether he will see that out.
