Paul Scholes has sounded the alarms in relation to Manchester United’s poor form over recent weeks. Erik ten Hag’s men will be feeling a little better about themselves after back-to-back Premier League wins, but neither of those victories were pretty.

United came from behind to defeat Brentford at home in the final moments, and they needed a Diego Dalot stunner to defeat a struggling Sheffield United side over the weekend. Those wins have come amid a disappointing start to the season that has also seen the Red Devils struggle in the Champions League.

Ten Hag’s men have lost both of their first two Champions League outings, most recently losing to Galatasaray, and they go into Tuesday night’s clash with Copenhagen needing to win to make up ground on those above them in the group.

In the meantime, club legend Scholes has been speaking about United’s poor form, their ‘complete disaster’ last time out in the Champions League and why the two Premier League wins are not likely to be the source of a big turnaround.

“This week is vitally important,” Scholes said on TNT Sports. “They’re in a terrible position after losing to Galatasaray, that first home game was a complete disaster.

“I’m not sure how much confidence the two wins in the Premier League will give them. One of them was scraped through [against Brentford], and again the performance wasn’t great again on Saturday night against a team you would expect to be relegated [Sheffield United].

“They’re just not firing at the minute. I’m not sure what the issue is, there seems to be a lot of changes all the time, they can’t seem to get a consistent team, whether it’s through injuries or suspensions, whatever it may be. But they need to win this game, there’s no doubt about it, and they probably need to win three of the next four games in the Champions League.”
