'This cannot continue' - Omar Berrada issues statement as Manchester United confirm more job cuts

Man Utd have confirmed there will be further job cuts in order to ease their financial situation.

Manchester United have confirmed a further 200 members of staff could be made redundant in the latest round of cost-cutting measures at the club. United cut their workforce by almost a quarter last year when 250 staff lost their jobs and they expect approximately 150-200 further jobs may be made redundant this year.

United held a staff meeting on Monday to announce the plans to solve their financial issues after the club posted five consecutive years of losses since 2019. The club claims these cuts will create a more solid financial platform to invest in men’s and women’s football success and improved infrastructure.

It was earlier revealed in the day United will close its staff canteen and offer employees a free piece of fruit in a further effort to cut costs. United have lost £300million in the past three years and Jim Ratcliffe is intent on reducing costs to comply with the Premier League's profitability and sustainability rules.

Omar Berrada issues statement

In an official club statement released on Monday afternoon, chief executive Omar Berrada confirmed the controversial plan to cut even more jobs, which could bring the total to 400 in the space of a year.

“We have a responsibility to put Manchester United in the strongest position to win across our men’s, women’s and academy teams,” he said. “We are initiating a wide-ranging series of measures which will transform and renew the club. Unfortunately, this means announcing further potential redundancies and we deeply regret the impact on those affected colleagues. However, these hard choices are necessary to put the club back on a stable financial footing.

“We have lost money for the past five consecutive years. This cannot continue. Our two main priorities as a club are delivering success on the pitch for our fans and improving our facilities. We cannot invest in these objectives if we are continuously losing money. At the end of this process, we will have a more lean, agile and financially sustainable football club, while continuing to provide a world class service to our valuable commercial partners. We will then be in a much stronger position to invest in football success and improved facilities for fans, while remaining compliant with UEFA and Premier League regulations.”
