Manchester United continue to be linked with a move for Inter Milan star Denzel Dumfries. Erik ten Hag is said to be keen to improve is squad this month, though he is having to do it on the cheap due to uncertainty over the ownership situation at Old Trafford. Right-back is one of the positions the Dutchman is said to be keen to improve, though Aaron Wan-Bissaka may have put that in doubt due to improved performances of late.

If United are to sign a right-back, it seems Dumfries could be a prime option, impressing for Inter Milan and the Netherlands in recent times - and we have already seen that Ten Hag is keen on working with fellow countrymen. In fact, TuttoMercatoWeb have reported that Dumfries could well leave Inter during the winter window, and it’s claimed talks with Premier League clubs are now getting serious.

United may be one of those teams, but they are not the only team who have been linked, with Chelsea also tipped to make an approach despite having Reece James on the right side already. During the World Cup, Dumfries was actually asked about interest from Chelsea by The Athletic.

He said: “Of course it’s a big compliment to be linked with Chelsea, but playing for Inter it’s a big compliment too.” Asked about a possible move to Chelsea in January, he replied: “Chelsea move in January? I’m focused on nothing else but national team and Inter”.

Of course, you wouldn’t expect Dumfries to open himself up to a move when he is a big part of Inter’s plans, but it may be worth noting how he has been flattered by interest from a Premier League giant. The crucial factor could be United’s reluctance to spend during the January window, with other clubs perhaps having a transfer advantage as a result.
