Nine forgotten Man Utd players who could be sold to top up summer transfer funds

We’ve picked out some fringe members of the Manchester United squad who may depart this window.

As we enter July, the transfer window is beginning to hot up for Manchester United, with the arrivals of Frenkie De Jong and Tyrell Malacia expected soon.

So far, the Red Devils are yet to make any additions to their squad since the 2021/22 campaign and fans are beginning to grow a tad restless at the lack of activity.

United have lagged far behind their competitors in recent years when it comes to transfer policy, and it’s imperative they get things right this summer.

That doesn’t just mean which players the Red Devils sign, but who they allow to leave.

Last season, Manchester City sold Ferran Torres and three fringe members of the squad, which all but covered the cost of Jack Grealish’s £100m arrival from Aston Villa.

They’ve also made similar inroads this summer, allowing Pablo Porro and CJ Egan-Riley to leave, while it’s been reported that Romeo Lavia could also be sold too.

Likewise, last summer Fikayo Tomori, Marc Guehi, Kurt Zouma and Tammy Abraham departed Chelsea for an estimated £114m.

Meanwhile, United have allowed Jesse Lingard, Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Edinson Cavani and Juan Mata to walk away for free this year, while they could have cashed in on them last summer, with Lingard in particular a target for West Ham United.

So knowing when to sell is key in the transfer window, and we’ve picked out nine players the Red Devils may decide to part with this summer, which could top up their funds for arrivals…
