Manchester United are back in action this weekend when they take on Newcastle United in a crucial clash in the top four race.

Erik ten Hag’s men still have work to do as they look to secure Champions League football, just three points ahead of Sunday’s opponents Newcastle ahead of making the trip to St James’ Park. United will be hoping to return from the international break with a bang, but should they lose, it would make their top four spot that much less secure with a number of teams fighting to make up ground below.

Ahead of the clash, Newcasdtle have jetted off to the Middle East for a warm-weather training camp, and Magpies boss Howe believes the trip will be vitally important for Emil Krafth and Anthony Gordon, who have both been injured.

He said: “Really good for the long term injured, like Emil. Coming here is a godsend really as it gives him a chance to be around the players again rather than detached and on his own like he would be normally. Brilliant mentally for him.

“For Anthony, he’s got a chance, more for the new players to know the players better. So Anthony, Harrison Ashby will now feel, I believe, fully integrated into the group. It sometimes takes a trip away to feel fully at home.”

Krafth is out for this one, while Gordon has a chance of returning. Elsewhere for Newcastle, Miguel Almiron is expected to miss out after picking up a thigh injury before the break, though there have been reports of fast progress from the Paraguayan. Sven Botman and Callum Wilson should recover from illness and Nick Pope from a minor issue, while Allan Saint-Maximin will go down as a doubt, but he should recover from his hamstring injury in time.

Youngster Matty Longstaff is out for the season, and more concerningly for Newcastle, one of their star men in Joelinton is suspended.
