Mason Greenwood is set to look for offers in Turkey or Italy after mutually agreeing to leave Manchester United while he is also being targeted by Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq, according to reports.

The 21-year-old was suspended by the club at the start of 2022 after he was arrested on charges of attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault but the charges were dropped by the Crown Prosecution Services due to “a combination of the withdrawal of key witnesses and new material that came to light”.

United opened their own investigation after the charges were dropped earlier this year. They concluded the player did not commit the allegations made against him.

A statement on Monday read: “Based on the evidence available to us, we have concluded that the material posted online did not provide a full picture and that Mason did not commit the offences in respect of which he was originally charged. That said, as Mason publicly acknowledges today, he has made mistakes which he is taking responsibility for.”

However, the club conceded: “All those involved, including Mason, recognise the difficulties with him recommencing his career at Manchester United. It has therefore been mutually agreed that it would be most appropriate for him to do so away from Old Trafford, and we will now work with Mason to achieve that outcome.”

The Daily Mail reports final details on Greenwood’s departure are still being worked out, whether the player leaves on loan or has his contract settled. It adds that Turkey or Italy are potential destinations for Greenwood as he looks to continue his career outside of England.

Jose Mourinho’s Roma side and Galatasary are two clubs who have been credited with a potential interest.

According to The Sun, Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq are considering a move for the player with claims the club are ready to offer the player a contract worth up to £10 million a year. The side signed Jordan Henderson this summer and are managed by Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard.
