Fabio Capello has urged former side Juventus to consider a summer transfer for Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood.

The 22-year-old does not appear to have a future at Old Trafford with the club expected to sell him in the summer transfer window. Greenwood has not played for United since January 2022, after allegations were made against him on social media earlier that month.

The forward strongly denies all allegations and had all charges against him dropped last February but United do not intend to let Greenwood play for or train with them while he is still at the club.

He has continued his career on loan with Spanish side Getafe and has attracted plenty of interest ahead of a possible move this summer. Barcelona and Atletico Madrid have both been linked, but former England and Real Madrid boss Capello believes he is also worth consideration by Juventus as they look to rebuild at the end of the season.

He told Gazzetta dello Sport: “I’ve heard about Greenwood. A Manchester United talent who has been affected by personal issues, but seems reborn at Getafe. There are no doubts about his qualities. [Riccardo] Calafiori looks interesting as well, but I am accustomed to seeing a Juventus that keeps their best players. I would not sell Bremer, [Federico] Chiesa or [Dusan] Vlahovic. I would only add quality players. I really like Bologna’s [Lewis] Ferguson and his injury was a shame.

“Juventus will need at least four quality signings to rival Inter in the title race next season. The Nerazzurri have 20 points more than the Bianconeri, and they have already made progress by signing Mehdi Taremi and Piotr Zielinski. Juventus need quality in the middle to get closer to Inter. Juventus would need one of [Simone] Inzaghi’s midfielders. There is a lot of noise around [Teun] Koopmeiners and he’d be a good reinforcement, but he would not be enough, especially if [Adrien] Rabiot leaves. From the outside, I have the feeling that before deciding whether to extend, the Frenchman wants to understand whether Juventus want to build a team to win. Juventus already have a great talent. I like [Kenan] Yildiz, he has proved to have the personality required in a top club.”
