Italian side Lazio are reportedly interested in signing Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood.

It was confirmed last month that the 21-year-old will not play for United again, following the findings of an internal investigation, after criminal charges were dropped against him earlier this year. Greenwood has always denied the charges, but did admit to ‘making mistakes’ in his private life.

United have since been trying to help the forward find a new club, and Greenwood could be close to securing a move away on transfer deadline day. ManchesterWorld understand there are multiple offers for the player, although nothing has yet been completed.

As per the Mirror, Lazio are ‘determined’ to wrap up a deal for Greenwood, although they face competition from Olympiacos and Besiktas. The outlet add that a loan is more likely, and the final decision will reside with Greenwood.

Meanwhile, Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio claims there has been contact between the attacker and Lazio, although approval is still needed by manager Maurizio Sarri. A contract offer has already been made and the club’s chairman has been in contact with Greenwood’s agent.

Should he complete a move to Lazio, there’s a chance Greenwood could play at Old Trafford again this season. The Serie A side, like United, are set to play in the Champions League, and Lazio were placed in Group E in Thursday’s draw along with Feyenoord, Atletico Madrid and Celtic.

The club from the Italian capital finished second last season and, should Greenwood complete a move to the Stadio Olimpico, his main competition for a starting place up front will be from Ciro Immobile and Taty Castellanos.

The United youth graduate played 129 times during his time at the Red Devils and scored 35 goals. His final appearance for the club came in January 2022, a day before his arrest.
