Erik ten Hag is confident he will have Marcus Rashford back soon after Manchester United suffered yet another injury scare in their weekend draw with Liverpool.

United made two changes from the side that had lost at Chelsea in midweek, with Rashford selected over Antony, while Willy Kambwala came in for the injured Raphael Varane. Jonny Evans was also absent due to injury and United confirmed Scott McTominay had also missed the match because of an injury issue.

McTominay’s injury setback means there have now been 56 separate cases of injury and illness that have caused a senior United player to miss a competitive game this season.

Ten Hag will hope that tally doesn’t rise to 57 when they face Bournemouth next weekend, with Rashford now considered a doubt for the fixture after he was replaced during the Liverpool draw. The 26-year-old lasted little over an hour before he signalled to the bench that he wanted to be replaced and fell to a heap on the pitch before he was eventually substituted for Antony.

United fans will be cursing their luck after yet another setback but manager Ten Hag is hopeful that Rashford’s injury is not a serious one. "I'm not sure, but I don't think it will be long term," he told MUTV after the 2-2 draw.

Ten Hag is typically coy on injury updates given the private nature of the medical information, while he has often reiterated that it takes roughly 24 hours before an accurate diagnosis can be made.

It means we could get an official update from the club during the week and he will almost certainly be quizzed on the latest team news in his next press conference on Friday.
