The Manchester United attacker also defended his decision to travel to New York in March.

Marcus Rashford has admitted it wasn’t ‘nice’ to see Manchester City celebrate winning the treble over the last few days but has said the football world will ‘move on’.

The boyhood Manchester United fan has watched City claim the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup trophies in the last few weeks, with the latter coming as the Blues beat United 2-1 at Wembley.

Winning the treble is a particularly sore spot for the Red Devils given, prior to this season, Sir Alex Ferguson’s 1999 side were the only side to collect all three trophies in a single season. But the achievements of Pep Guardiola’s men have thrown down the gauntlet to the division’s other sides, claimed Rashford.

"It’s not nice, but at the same time, that’s football,” he admitted on Monday morning. “The best team that is consistently playing the best football is going to win the most trophies. They’ve managed to win three this year, well done to them. Obviously we move on and it’s up to them to keep it going and it’s up to us to catch them up.”

Asked if it gives him added motivation, the 25-year-old replied: “Yeah, 100 percent.”

Rashford is currently on England duty and is preparing for a double header against Malta and North Macedonia. The Three Lions travel to Ta’ Qali for the first fixture on Friday, while the second match is in slightly familiar surroundings for United’s no.10, and is being staged at Old Trafford.

England started their Euro 2024 superbly and won 2-1 in Naples in March, before beating Ukraine 2-0 at Wembley.

Rashford missed those games due to injury and had to pull out of Gareth Southgate’s squad late on. The United star opted to travel to New York while nursing the knock, sparking suggestions in some quarters that he lacked commitment to England in comparison to his club side.

However, Rashford defended that decision and said: "I need time to switch off and recover. I took a short trip, four days, then went back to do rehab and just try and get ready as soon as possible.

"With injuries, you can't predict when they're going to happen,” he added. “Occasionally you do get impact injuries. I know that I'm committed to it [England] 100 percent. People are going to say what they're going to say, it doesn't really bother me."
