Manchester United were 'interested' in centre-back transfer before striking deals
Manchester United returned to winning ways in the Premier League this weekend
Manchester United beat Southampton 3-0 away on Saturday afternoon. Matthijs de Ligt, Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho were on the scoresheet.

Goalkeeper Andre Onana also saved a penalty to help his side pick up three points. Here is a look at some of the latest news and rumours coming out of the club...
Free agent latest
United are ‘unlikely’ to move for free agent midfielder Adrien Rabiot anytime soon, according to a report by Football Insider. The France international, who is 29-years-old, remains in the hunt for a new club.
He cut ties with Juventus at the end of last season and his contract officially expired in late June. Rabiot has since been weighing up his next move and has a big decision to make on where to go next.
The player remains an option to teams in the Premier League who still need someone in his position. However, it appears the Red Devils won’t be making a swoop to lure him to Old Trafford anytime soon. They snapped up Manuel Ugarte from PSG in his position at the end of August following Scott McTominay’s exit to Napoli.
Defender was on radar
United were interested in signing Mikayil Faye from Barcelona over the summer, according to his agent Andy Bara. The defender ended up joining Rennes in Ligue 1 but is yet to feature at all for his new club.
The Red Devils bolstered their defensive department by bringing in De Ligt from Bayern Munich, as well as Leny Yoro from Lille. The latter has since picked up an injury and is sidelined right now.
Faye’s representative Bara has said on the Inkubator podcast (via Goal): "Manchester United were interested in Faye, but he didn’t like that option. He wasn’t a regular at Barcelona, so what did it matter if he hadn’t had the same at United? His development wouldn’t have progressed at all.
"Barca wanted a buy-back clause in Faye's contract with Rennais, it was the only condition that Barça accepted. The clause is €30 million (£25m/$33m). Now everything depends on Faye, on how he is going to develop."
