Manchester United v Southampton: Teams announced as Ronaldo replaces Cavani
Cavani misses the clash with the Saints due to a groin issue.
That solitary alteration sees Cristiano Ronaldo come in for Edinson Cavani up front, with Ralf Rangnick telling MUTV that is due to the latter suffering from a groin issue.
David De Gea keeps up his record of starting every league game this season, while in front of him it’s a back four of Diogo Dalot, Raphael Varane, Maguire and Luke Shaw.
In midfield, Paul Pogba retains his place alongside Scott McTominay and Bruno Fernandes. Ronaldo starts in the centre-forward role, with Jadon Sancho and Rashford in the wide areas.
As for Southampton, they’re unchanged from midweek and will play in a 4-4-2 shape. They’ll also be hoping for a better outgoing than last season’s meeting, when United equalled the highest-ever Premier League winning margin by beating Southampton 9-0.
The Saints head into this game in 10th and on the back of taking three points from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Wednesday, while they also recently ended Manchester City’s 12-game winning run.
As for United, they’re sixth in table but could end the weekend anywhere between fourth and seventh.
